I was going to write about my garden today but Jane Finnen turned up with two buckets of pie cherries. Jane is in her mid 70's and had spent the afternoon up on a ladder picking them in addition to three buckets that she kept for herself and her husband Bill. She confided to me that she gave up climbing the trees a couple of years ago. I spent the evening pitting 18 pounds of cherries and making a batch of cherry preserves. I can hear the lids on the jars clicking as they cool off and I am ready for bed.
